The Guardian reported that US shares advanced on Wednesday while the dollar weakened, as investors assessed the outcome of the midterm elections. According to the Guardian, the Dow Jones climbed close to 3 percent, marking its strongest day in more than a year, while the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 each rose by about 1.5 percent by the close.
The Guardian reported that the gains reversed overnight declines in US stock futures that followed news Democrats had taken control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Government bond yields also fell, the Guardian reported, as early concern about possible effects on growth in the world's largest economy faded.
Investors were also encouraged, according to the Guardian, by expectations that a divided political landscape might limit major policy changes by Donald Trump.
