UK charity shops are facing exceptionally difficult trading conditions as profits plummet across the sector, according to The Guardian. The decline is being driven by mounting pressure from online secondhand clothing platforms, raising concerns that a core part of their fundraising model could be under threat.

The Guardian reported that the situation is especially stark at Oxfam, where retail profit fell 23% to £4.9 million in the last financial year, down from £6.4 million the previous year. This sharp drop comes as high‑profile charity retailers struggle to adapt to changing consumer habits.

The British Heart Foundation has also described its trading environment as 'exceptionally challenging', highlighting how widespread the financial pressures are for charities dependent on donated goods.
