The Guardian reported that comedian Max Olesker has made his adult circumcision as part of a religious conversion the subject of a stage show. Olesker, 38, first met Eliana at the Edinburgh fringe, where they fell in love. Eliana is Orthodox Jewish, and Olesker wanted to marry her. Although Olesker had always considered himself Jewish, his mother had converted to a less rigorous branch of Judaism when his parents married. The Beth Din, the rabbinical court, did not accept that conversion, so Olesker had to convert to Orthodox Judaism to marry Eliana, including undergoing an operation he did not welcome. The Guardian described the journey as painful and at times infuriating. In an interview at a kosher restaurant in central London, Olesker photographed his salt beef on rye from multiple angles, saying he was trying to learn a skill. The newspaper also described him as engaging, bright-eyed, smartly dressed in ribbed knitwear and unfailingly polite.
