China's first fully AI-generated feature, Sanxingdui: Future Past, has reported low box office takings, the Guardian reported. Its producer said the film took in 1.7m yuan, about £191,000, while production costs ran into tens of millions. The Guardian said its reviewer watched the film in Beijing in a screening room with very few other viewers present. The assessment was that its quality matched that of many human-produced action movies. Despite the low audience numbers, the Guardian reported that Chinese investors continue to place a high value on artificial intelligence in filmmaking, with some viewing the project as a sign of cinema's future.
