MercoPress reported that Argentina's legal challenge to the United Kingdom over the Sea Lion oil project, located north of the Falklands, may face an immediate obstacle. Australian law of the sea expert Donald R. Rothwell said the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea does not have the power to decide territorial sovereignty disputes, raising a question over whether it can take jurisdiction over the case. The tribunal is set to hear Argentina's request on November 10 and 11 in Hamburg.
