The Guardian reported that three foreign nationals are facing charges in the United States after prosecutors accused them of using artificial intelligence to pretend to be company chief executives and lawyers in a scheme to take more than $100 million. The report said the case became public when an indictment was unsealed by the US Department of Justice. According to The Guardian, a statement from the federal prosecutor's office for the Southern District of New York named the defendants as Jacob Soall, Sharon Hazan and Guy Sheetrit. Prosecutors allege the trio used AI-generated alterations of voices and images of executives and attorneys at several businesses to persuade staff to transfer large sums of money. The Guardian reported that Soall and Hazan were detained in Spain during the summer, while Sheetrit was detained in the United Kingdom in September. The alleged activity was said to have occurred from 2024 through 2026.
