The Guardian reported that authorities in Lima stopped more than 3,000 tarantulas that were being transported toward Germany. The creatures had been placed inside soiled socks, which were packed across three pieces of luggage. The bags belonged to two people from Germany and one person from Poland, according to the National Forestry and Wildlife Service, which shared the information with Agence France-Presse on Thursday. The Guardian reported the spiders could have sold for roughly 1.5 million euros after reaching Germany.
