The Guardian reported that the WTA offered additional support to British player Jodie Burrage after she was targeted with death threats and online abuse. Burrage, 27, shared on Instagram the abusive messages she received after losing her first-round match at the Chennai Open in India on Tuesday. The scoreline was 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in favour of India's Vaishnavi Adkar, and it was Burrage's first WTA Tour match since last summer. Alongside the messages, she wrote: “Nice welcome back to the tour. I remember why I left.” The WTA said its staff in Chennai were offering her support.
