The outlet noted an image from Donald Trump's inauguration showing Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg seated together in the front row now reads differently in light of a Democratic-leaning Congress. At the time, The Guardian said, the image represented deference from the world's richest figures to the country's most powerful leader, and a close alignment between political power and wealth. According to the Guardian, Silicon Valley leaders, already very wealthy, expected a strong rightward shift associated with MAGA to further increase their wealth, and for a period that expectation appeared to hold as fortunes grew significantly while AI expanded and Trump remained influential, with Musk's wealth passing $1 trillion.
