According to the Times of India, archaeologists working in Pień have excavated the burial of a woman identified as Zosia, dating to the 17th century. Items recovered with her remains included an iron sickle and a padlock placed on her toe, the Times of India reported. The objects are understood as precautions intended to keep her from returning from death in vampire form. The unusual nature of the interment may point to Zosia having come from a wealthy family, according to the Times of India. Researchers are now investigating her life more closely, along with the beliefs about death and the supernatural that influenced how she was laid to rest.
