According to MercoPress, Paraguay's Central Bank assumed control of Ueno Bank on Tuesday. The lender is among the largest in the country. The intervention came after its solvency ratio slipped to under 50 percent of the legal minimum. All of the bank's assets and liabilities were frozen as part of the takeover. The freeze covered savings held by roughly 3 million customers, as well as more than US$800 million in public funds. The bank halted operations immediately, suspending all of its services.
