DW reported that the long-standing independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta will stop publishing after facing sustained pressure from state authorities. The outlet said the decision was forced by an escalating campaign of restrictions and legal challenges that made continued operation untenable.

The shutdown removes a key platform for investigative journalism and dissent in Russia, marking another blow to media freedom in the country, according to DW.

DW also noted that evacuations have begun in the town of Oleshky in Ukraine as residents are moved to safer areas amid ongoing conflict.
