According to CNA, President Donald Trump publicly endorsed Pete Hegseth, saying the defense secretary is performing well even as speculation grows about whether he will remain in the role. CNA recalled that in the 2006 midterm elections, President George Bush dismissed Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld the morning after Democrats took control of Congress. A Trump adviser also told CNA that Hegseth does not have guaranteed protection from a similar outcome.
