The Guardian reported that U2 spoke with the outlet over lunch at La Petite Maison in Nice, a five-star restaurant known for attracting celebrities including Beyoncé, Elton John, Tom Cruise, Harry Styles and Leonardo DiCaprio. The venue was founded by Nicole, who has been described in print as eccentric and unique. The Guardian said she was standing by the entrance on arrival, while the band's appearance drew little reaction from other diners. Bono is a regular at the restaurant.
Bono recalled being on the outdoor terrace during the Bastille Day terrorist attack in Nice in 2016, in which 86 people were killed. He said he climbed through a window and hid under a table at the rear of the restaurant, while Nicole did not hide.
The conversation covered 50 years together and the new album Carnaval de Luz. The band also discussed male egos.
