Salesforce has agreed to buy defence-technology company Rune as it expands its military and government business, according to Reuters reporting. The move reflects growing competition to provide data, cloud and workflow tools to public-sector customers.

The acquisition also illustrates how commercial software vendors are adapting products and compliance systems for security-sensitive deployments.
