On July 23, 1983, an Air Canada Boeing 767 lost engine power while flying over Manitoba. According to the Times of India, ground staff made a fuel calculation error that led to a shortage equal to 45 percent of the needed amount. The flight carried 61 passengers and 8 crew members. The Times of India reported that the pilots kept the aircraft steady and glided it toward an old military runway. They then performed an emergency landing on that runway. The Times of India noted that all 69 people aboard suffered only minor injuries, and the plane was later restored.
