The Guardian reported that older voters received praise for shifting the outcome of Brazil's presidential runoff in favour of left-wing President Lula over far-right rival Flávio Bolsonaro. The account highlighted Celia de Oliveira Soares, a 101-year-old great-grandmother who had not voted in almost ten years and had not left home for months, according to the Guardian. On 25 October, relatives assisted Soares into a wheelchair and transported her to a local school to cast a ballot, motivated by a desire to prevent Bolsonaro from winning, the Guardian reported. The vote took place in an election widely described as among Brazil's most significant in decades, the Guardian reported.
