According to the Times of India, Sam Altman, who leads OpenAI, has said that human beings must retain control of the future, and that this should hold even where it means a slower pace for artificial intelligence advances. Writing on X, Altman cautioned that individuals ought not hand over authority to a superintelligence, nor accept a secondary position in which they carry out tasks that AI systems choose to reward. The Times of India reported that his remarks came after he stated in Abu Dhabi that artificial intelligence is now more intelligent than most leading scientists, and after he called for constraints to be placed on individual AI models.
