According to the Times of India, a woman in Bihar's Nalanda district has turned her village into a centre for mushroom cultivation while helping 250 women gain a livelihood. Anita Devi took up mushroom farming to improve her family's financial situation. The Times of India reported that she initially faced doubt from her community, but she remained committed to the work. That commitment led to the formation of the Madhopur Farmers Producers Company. By 2025, the company had 512 farmers as members and provided them with important agricultural resources. The initiative has helped local women become more self-reliant, the Times of India reported. Devi now hopes to expand the company's activities to other produce, including makhana.
