The Irrawaddy reported that Thai energy officials met with Russian and Myanmar junta representatives in Bangkok to discuss a new liquefied natural gas supply route. The proposed project would bring Russian LNG to the southern Myanmar port of Dawei and channel it through existing pipelines to Thailand, aiming to diversify the kingdom’s energy sources. Officials highlighted the strategic benefits of the arrangement, noting it could provide the Myanmar military government with additional revenue while strengthening regional energy cooperation. The talks also underscored the geopolitical dimensions of the deal, as both countries seek to reduce dependence on traditional transit routes.
