NASA is revisiting a milestone from 1977, when the agency sent twin spacecraft, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, toward the outer solar system. The launch was timed to a once-in-175-years alignment of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. According to NASA, the spacecraft relied on six gravity assists between them to carry out a Grand Tour of those four worlds. The encounters delivered close-up views of the gas and ice giants and several moons.
