Venkatesh Iyer has described the abuse he received online from Kolkata Knight Riders supporters in the aftermath of Shubman Gill's departure from the franchise, according to the Times of India. The Times of India reported that Iyer was frequently criticised on social media by KKR fans, with the criticism intensifying whenever Gill produced a strong performance, including scoring a century. Speaking ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, Iyer shared his perspective on that period, while also referring to how he had previously approached Shah Rukh Khan. Iyer was subsequently released and went on to join Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he has since observed the close bond between the team and its supporters.
