According to the Times of India, Cristiano Ronaldo has said goodbye to international football, closing a chapter that reshaped the history of the Portugal senior national side. Before Ronaldo, Portugal had never won a senior trophy. Their best performances at the World Cup had been semifinal appearances on only two occasions, in 1966 and in 2006, the latter being Ronaldo's first World Cup. With Ronaldo leading the team, Portugal's fortunes changed. The Times of India reported that they went on to win three trophies in nine years.
