Perspective
World Stroke Day’s message is deliberately simple: recognise face drooping, arm weakness and speech difficulty, then seek emergency help immediately. With one in four people at lifetime risk, that knowledge should not depend on remembering a once-a-year campaign.
Schools, workplaces, transit systems and community groups can teach FAST in the same practical way they teach fire exits or basic first aid. Health authorities should also adapt materials to local languages and make the call-to-action fit each country’s emergency system.
When treatment is time-sensitive, awareness is infrastructure. A population that can recognise symptoms quickly gives patients a better chance before an ambulance even arrives.
